The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking and goal setting through sharing their most important strategic goals.
Goal One: To build the world’s most inclusive seaweed seed bank. By 2030, our collection will surpass 6,000 biodiverse variants of 12 selected keystone species. We will: (a) enhance our existing giant kelp and bull kelp collections; (b) Develop ribbon kelp and kombu collections; and (c) Expand our seed library with other species. We will complement our seed bank with associated kelp-related microbes.
Goal Two: -To build a Best-in-Class Physical infrastructure including storage facilities, research laboratories, analytical capabilities and computational resources designed to reliably ensure high quality and long-term stability for all of the strains in our collection, and for the associated metadata. -To expand our library of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sample collection, handling, storage.
Goal Three: To build a robust database for macroalgae, supported by in-depth information, backed by rigorous collection, analysis and documentation procedures.
To build a web-based user interface enabling easy, interrogable and secure access to the database to accelerate scientific research, plan restoration programs, and stimulate innovation initiatives to utilize macroalgae.
