Vision

An informed and engaged readership that votes and participates in the community and civic discourse.

Goals

1. 1.We are in a period of growth, expanding our boots-on-the-ground street reporting to six additional neighborhoods across San Francisco. At the same time, we are strengthening our existing reporters covering City Hall, criminal justice, and immigration. We will be adding a tech and power reporter.
2. 2.Our expansion will be fueled by a three-year grant from the American Journalism Project to expand our business and development team. We are in Year 1 of the grant. That new team - we only hired our first development director in 2024 - will be focused on growing our reader and donorship base.
3. 3.As we expand, we will be looking at other ways to interact with our readership, including events, meetups and reading groups. We experimented with print editions in Chinese and Spanish during the 2024 election period, and it proved successful in reaching linguistically isolated readers. We will likely to more of that and more short video and audio stories in Chinese and Spanish.
