Mission

Founded in 1921, United Way of King County is nonprofit organization based in Seattle that works side by side with a wide variety of partners to build an equitable future for everyone. We raise money and invest in providing access to financial resources, quality education, enough to eat, and a safe place to call home. We do this by raising funds from individuals, foundations, companies, and government entities; we lend expertise and administrative resources to a variety of partnerships; we run a volunteering program; we advocate at all levels of government; and we provide direct services such as free tax preparation, school breakfast and summer meals, and financial support for low-income community college students. United Way’s programming and strategic focus is to support the well-being of King County residents while also working to transform the inequitable systems that create disparities in the first place. United Way pursues its mission with a racial justice lens and is committed to racial equity in both its external mission and internal culture.
