Columbia Riverkeeper

Mission

Columbia Riverkeeper’s (Riverkeeper) mission is to protect and restore the water quality of the Columbia River and all life connected to it, from the headwaters to the Pacific Ocean. We team with river communities, and work in solidarity with Tribal Nations, to fight for environmental and climate justice. We combine legacy advocacy, grassroots community organizing, and creative communications strategies to engage and center the communities most impacted by toxic pollution, salmon declines, and climate change in the Columbia basin. We inspire people with victories, bringing diverse communities together to both fight for environmental and climate justice—and celebrate our collective successes.

1.Work in solidarity with Tribes and frontline river communities to: protect and restore clean water; restore abundant and harvestable salmon; and advance a just transition from fossil fuels to energy justice on the Columbia.
2.Inspire people to care for and use the Columbia River through cultural deference and respectful appreciation, science, and hands-on opportunities to engage with and learn about the river and the people who rely on it.
3.Implement anti-racist strategies and embrace the many ways Columbia Riverkeeper’s mission and social justice intersect.
