While we experienced consistent giving at the height of COVID in 2020, however, 2021 has performed below expectations. Fortunately, we've managed expenses accordingly and have been able to continue our work uninterrupted for the most part.

Our program delivery occurs in the country of Haiti. While COVID ravaged the world in 2020, Haiti was only mildly impacted. This changed in 2021 and we saw elevated cases and impact. As a result, the school year ended early in our partner schools.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
We've adapted to the impacts of COVID by remaining fluid in our operations, listening to the experts, and making our clients' and staff safety the top priority. We've worked with local organizations in Haiti to procure PPE and keep it available on all campuses.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
The largest takeaway from the COVID-19 pandemic impacts in Haiti thus far is keeping PPE and hand wash stations available regardless of the level of health risk.

Heartline recently invested in a Haitian-run program called Pro-Lead. Through this training, key local leaders in Haiti attended leadership courses and were certified via the Pro-Lead program. Additionally, we are currently in conversation with a partner university to offer university-level coursework to leaders at a reduced expense.

Heartline Ministries maintains multiple partnerships on the ground in Haiti with other NGO's of similar vision and values. With our mission of investing in families, we believe that means investing knowledge and sometimes resources in other organizations. When they succeed, we see our mission and vision become a reality. Additionally, we actively involved in engaging the community through social media and other forms of digital marketing. In regard to thought leadership, Heartline meets with and engages board quarterly. We also update them weekly in regard to key events in the organization and on the ground in Haiti.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
In 2020, similar to many other like-organizations, Heartline adapted to changes in the non-profit landscape both on the development side as well as the operations side. Operationally, we quickly adapted to the threats of COVID-19 on the ground in Haiti by partnering with local organizations to establish safety measures on our campuses as well as our partner school campuses. From PPE (personal protective equipment) to hand-washing stations, we made sure we provided all we could to protect our staff, clients, customers, and students. Additionally, we followed all local and national recommendations as they related to COVID-19 safety measures. We continue to do so. At times, we were required to shut down certain areas of the ministry including our schools and bakery. In 2020, we also experienced a significant increase in social unrest and political volatility in Haiti and this was an even greater driver in closures when compared to COVID-19. It is important to note, we were able to keep the Heartline Maternity Center 100% operational throughout the pandemic and continue to do so to this day. We celebrated 116 healthy births at the Heartline Maternity Center in 2020. From the development standpoint, Heartline's US team moved to 100% virtual operations in 2020 canceling all in-person meetings and events. While we were approximately 90% virtual as a team already, this was a relatively easy adjustment and was accomplished seamlessly.
