Point Blue Conservation Science is dedicated to conserving birds, other wildlife and ecosystems through innovative scientific research and outreach. Founded as Point Reyes Bird Observatory in 1965, our award-winning bird ecology research, management tools and field training programs are advancing biodiversity conservation on land and at sea. Point Blue has catalyzed the development of some of the most innovative conservation partnerships and decision support tools in the nation. Major conservation initiatives are achieving more effective outcomes as a result of Point Blue's innovative science, training, and outreach.
Vision
Because of our collaborative climate-smart conservation actions today, ecosystems will sustain thriving wildlife and human communities well into the future.
Goals
- 1.Globally Connected Conservation Science & Connecting Science To Action: advance globally connected conservation science by integrating long-term data, new technologies, and broad partnerships to inform major regional to international frameworks; connect science to action by co-creating innovative, on the ground solutions with partners to drive effective, scalable conservation.
- 2.Empowered Communities: prioritize collaborative engagement, training, and apprenticeship opportunities to ensure our conservation efforts, including habitat restoration, are informed by diverse voices and insights reflecting the cultural, historical, social, and ecological contexts in which we work. This strengthens our ability to create equitable, effective, and resilient conservation solutions.
- 3.Policy Engagement: leverage our scientific expertise to strategically connect policy leaders with the best available science and bridge local action with global conservation frameworks. Recognizing that impactful conservation is human-centered, we integrate social science and ecological research to advance science-based policies grounded in community values that resonate with diverse stakeholders.
