Global Hunger Project

Mission

Our mission is to facilitate individual and collective action to transform the systems of inequity that create hunger and cause it to persist. Founded in 1977, The Hunger Project is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers people to lead lives of self-reliance, meet their own basic needs and build better futures for their children. The Hunger Project carries out its mission through three essential activities: mobilizing village clusters at the grassroots level to build self-reliance, empowering women as key change agents, and forging effective partnerships with local government.

1.We mobilize communities and partners to influence policy, strengthen accountability, and bridge grassroots voices with decision-makers. Across local to global levels, we elevate lived experience and take bold positions on systemic change, climate justice, gender equality, and food sovereignty.
2.We believe elevating youth leadership is essential to creating a world without hunger. We strengthen and expand youth engagement across the organization and in partner communities, with a focus on girls. By supporting initiatives led by young people, we catalyze change in social justice, civic engagement, technology adoption, climate resilience and accountability.
3.We seek a quantum leap in engaging the private sector to create sustainable change while ensuring community needs come first. We strengthen entrepreneurship, cooperatives and partnerships with local and global businesses while engaging food and market systems to become more equitable and resilient, and leveraging innovation and technology to expand impact.
