The Operations Director completed studies to gain accreditation in animal welfare and passed the test to become a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA). The Executive Director renewed her CAWA status by completing 60 CEU credits in 2020-2021. The management team of 5 attended virtual conferences hosted by The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement, Humane Society of the United States and Best Friends Animal Society, as well as compassion fatigue training offered by the WA State Federation of Animal Care & Control Agencies.

What are this organization’s external mobilizaton efforts?
Purrfect Pals partners with shelters and animal rescue organizations in WA to take the cats and kittens they do not have the space or resources to help. The Executive Director, Deputy Director and Intake & Foster Manager work with the Pet Alliance of Washington to address cat homelessness. The Outreach Manager promotes programs on social media and recruits and trains volunteers to assist with cat care. We advocate for animal welfare issues with the state legislature as members of the WA Federation of Animal Care & Control Agencies. The Executive Director and Deputy Director have participated in panel discussions at national conferences and the Executive Director has presented to local service organizations several times.

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Purrfect Pals adapted their operations to continue to serve the public and accept special needs cats and kittens by developing an appointment system for all services. Team members were cross trained to assist with cat care when other staff needed to quarantine due to COVID exposure. All employees, volunteers and visitors are required to wash their hands when entering the facility and wear face masks at all times except when working alone in a room. An incentive of 8 hours paid time off was offered to encourage staff to get COVID vaccinations. The Board of Directors moved their monthly meetings to ZOOM and did not miss a single meeting.
