During the COVID pandemic, activities that were not immediately part of keeping The Old Globe operating were not pursued.

The Globe’s work with local San Diego communities is at the heart of our commitment to serving the public good through theatre and amplifying diverse voices. The Globe partners with 58 nonprofit organizations and government agencies to ensure access to the Globe and our community-based programming. Families, youth, and educators are served through free programs on the Globe’s Copley Plaza, free student matinees, teacher workshops, sensory-friendly performances, and programs for youth interested in theatrical careers. Playwriting workshops, participatory performance programs, and Globe for All tours serve adults in the community.

The Old Globe has significantly changed the way it offers subscription seasons for 2022. Traditionally, the Globe has offered two separate subscription seasons: a Winter Season, from September through April; and a Summer Season, from May through August. Starting in 2022, following input from staff, production, and Globe artists, including the four Resident Artists, the Globe will offer one subscription season for the entire calendar year, aligning with our fiscal year. This will allow audience members greater flexibility of play selection for their subscription packages, a more unified and streamlined approach to ticketing for our Box Office, more lead time when announcing plays to the public, which is crucial to building audience and donor consensus and support a smoother budgeting process.
