Mission

The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) was founded in 1976. Dystonia is a movement disorder that causes the muscles to contract and spasm involuntarily. The mission of the DMRF is to advance research for more treatments and ultimately a cure; to promote awareness and education; and to support the needs and well-being of affected individuals and families. Dedicated to serving the needs of all persons affected with dystonia and their families, the DMRF provides information and support to 55,000 annually.

Goals

1.Research: Build a globally focused science program to pursue all possible lines of investigation to increase scientific understanding of dystonia and expedite improved treatments and a cure.
2.Education & Awareness: Provide access to accurate information to patients, their families, health care professionals and raise awareness of dystonia with researchers and the public.
3.Support: Provide opportunities for all individuals and families to connect with the larger dystonia community for support, so that no one has to face dystonia alone.
