Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library

Mission

THE MISSION OF HERMOSA BEACH FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY IS TO PROMOTE LITERACY, EDUCATION, CULTURE AND COMMUNITY IN HERMOSA BEACH AND THE SOUTH BAY

Vision

Hermosa Beach as the Best Little Bookish Beach City: a community where every resident has a book in hand, readers and writers gather, students are celebrated, and the Library thrives.

Goals

1.Expand free and affordable book access across Hermosa Beach and the South Bay by FY2028: grow the Little Free Library network from 31 to 75 installations covering every neighborhood, scale Book READcycle deliveries to schools, shelters, and nonprofits through scheduled recipient relationships, and increase weekly Bookstore hours.
2.Build the leadership, governance, and financial foundation of a professionally managed nonprofit by 2028: an Executive Director leading strategy and philanthropy, a diverse nine-member Board with active Finance, Governance, and Development committees, fund-based accounting and donor stewardship systems, and diversified revenue that preserves investments as permanent community capital.
3.Secure HBFoL's future as a civic institution: renew and expand the Community Center lease before its June 2027 expiration, advance a destination bookstore and literary hub ahead of the LA28 Games, and advocate with City leadership for Library funding and services as the Library's primary community partner.
