Mission

Wishtoyo is a native-led organization founded in 1997. Our mission is to protect and preserve the culture, history, and lifeways of Chumash and Indigenous peoples, and the environment everyone depends on.

Vision

Goals

1.Grow our capacity for Watershed Monitoring in the Santa Clara River (Utom) to inform best practices for environmental management in the watershed and protect vital environmental and cultural resources, places, and species.
2.Maintain and expand our youth education programs: (a) Chumash Maritime Lifeways which brings youth from three counties to the Wishtoyo Chumash Village for educational programs and (b) Intertribal Youth Summer Field Study which brings Indigenous youth from around the West Coast together for a week long culturally immersive program based at the Wishtoyo Chumash Village and Santa Cruz Island (Limuw).
3.Continue to expand the restoration of the 100 + acres of the Wishtoyo Conservancy and expand the capacity of the Wishtoyo Eco-Farm, leading to an increase in land health and accessibility to healthy cultural food, medicine, and the knowledge of wild tending, harvesting, and working with traditional materials.
