My Stuff Bags Foundation
Mission
The My Stuff Bags Foundation provides new childhood essentials to thousands of children each year who must be rescued from abandonment, abuse, domestic violence, homelessness, and neglect across the United States. Tragically, these children often enter foster care or crisis shelters with little to nothing of their own. By rallying widespread individual, corporate, and grantor involvement and a labor force of thousands of volunteers, My Stuff Bags addresses the immediate emotional, physical and psychological needs of rescued children and helps support the agencies caring for them. Each year, My Stuff Bags reaches 20,000 of these hurting children through our network of over 2,000 Partner Agencies. To date, My Stuff Bags has reached 740,000 vulnerable children in crisis across America.
Vision
Our vision is to provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to children in crisis across the nation through the distribution of at least 20,000 My Stuff Bags each year. While this quantitative goal is important, the true measure of our success is the impact each Bag has on a child’s ability to begin recovering from trauma. Many children entering foster care or emergency placements have endured severe Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), often arriving with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Each My Stuff Bag delivers immediate comfort, stability, and dignity through new essentials. Aligned with principles of Psychological First Aid described by the National Institutes of Health, our Bags help stabilize children in crisis while equipping child welfare professionals and shelters with a critical resource they often cannot provide on their own—helping them build trust and connection with the children in their care.
Goals
- 1.A primary goal is to expand partnerships with child welfare agencies, shelters, and crisis responders who distribute our Bags directly to children in need, while strengthening relationships with our existing Partner Agencies.
- 2.We will strengthen fundraising through grants, direct mail, online campaigns, social media, events, and community outreach. Because nearly 90% of My Stuff Bag items are donated, we will also expand in-kind partnerships with manufacturers, corporations, and community organizations.
- 3.We will continue expanding our Volunteer Program by welcoming schools, companies, community groups, and individuals to help prepare and pack My Stuff Bags. Volunteer participation allows us to engage the community in our mission while reducing labor costs and maximizing program impact.
