Mission

The Urbanist Fund is dedicated to advancing impactful journalism at The Urbanist that fosters vibrant, equitable, and sustainable cities. Through our commitment to high-quality reporting and community engagement, we empower citizens and policymakers with the knowledge required to create better urban environments for all. We seek to ensure that every community thrives. By investing in the future of urbanist journalism, we strive to inspire positive change and build a more just and livable world.

Vision

Abundant housing affordable to all; safe, sustainable, and reliable transportation; and a strong, just, and decarbonized economy in the Puget Sound Region.

Goals

1.Increase funding to support staff, expand freelance and editorial capacity, grow topic and geographic coverage, and offer competitive pay and professional development to attract and retain talent.
2.Reach more readers with accessible reporting that connects daily life to policy solutions. Measure success by regional readership growth and how many become informed, engaged urbanist advocates.
3.Grow the full-time staff to include a dedicated executive director and director of advocacy to increase capacity and advocacy impact.
