Charity Navigator Launches Campaign for Cryptocurrency Donations
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ, AUGUST 01, 2018 -- Charity Navigator, the leading independent evaluator of nonprofits used by millions of Americans, today announced the launch of a campaign to accept cryptocurrencies as charitable gifts. Donations made via BitCoin and BitCash are being processed by BitPay.
Charity Navigator sets the standard for nonprofit financial health, accountability and transparency. Like the organizations it evaluates, Charity Navigator is a nonprofit supported primarily by individual donors. Their decision to accept cryptocurrency is an indication that nonprofits are beginning to recognize blockchain as a viable channel for social investors to make tax-deductible donations using cryptocurrency.
“Cryptocurrencies provide a new store of value, and are just one of the many ways that blockchain technology enables data sharing with permanent record keeping across value chains. As a leader in trust and transparency in philanthropy, it's natural for Charity Navigator to support these new, innovative ways for donors to contribute,” said Marie Wieck, General Manager of IBM Blockchain and longtime Charity Navigator board member.
In a recent survey by WeTrust, a leading enabler of decentralized financial technologies, cryptocurrency donors are most interested in causes that support the needs of Children, Education, Public Health, and Civil Rights. Tens of millions of dollars in cybercurrencies have already been donated to charity through cybercurrency innovators Pineapple Fund and GiveCrypto.
