California Wildfires

California Wildfires Header Image
More than a dozen wildfires have broken out across California, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes. In Southern California, meteorologists are predicting strong, gusty winds for the region, which may increase the threat of new or spreading fires. And, in the northern part of the state, firefighters are battling significant blazes that have already destroyed an area twice the size of San Francisco.

Some experts suggest that these devastating wildfires are California’s “new normal,” but that doesn’t make them any less destructive or difficult for individuals and communities affected by them. Fortunately, a number of highly-rated organizations are committed to providing emergency services like food, water, shelter, and medical care to those impacted by the fires, and helping communities recover and rebuild in their wake.

You can help our neighbors in California today by supporting one of these trustworthy charities that has confirmed their efforts on the ground. All of the organizations listed meet our standards for financial health and accountability and transparency.

Interested in funding long-term recovery efforts for the communities affected by the fires? The Center for Disaster Philanthropy, a charity that has earned a 4-star Charity Navigator rating and is also a trusted philanthropic partner of Google and Facebook, established the 2019 California Wildfires Recovery Fund. This fund allows donors to give now to support recovery needs that will continue to surface long after the media’s coverage fades. Recovery for these devastating wildfires may take many months, if not years.

Designated donations made from this page will be applied to charity programs per each charity's designation policies.
