Community Options has invested heavily in leadership development. Our succession planning program includes a Leadership Academy that identifies promising employees. Our leaders are provided with an individualized career development plan, training and a mentor to assist them through the process. We offer tuition reimbursement to employees who are enrolled in higher education. Last month, we hired a Senior Director of Organizational Development. He will enhance our management training program and provide executive coaching to leaders. We have also partnered with Corporate Education Group and Duke University to offer a Leadership Certification Program. The Leadership Certification selects high-performing leaders to help them expand organizational strategy and critical thinking. The topics are Defining the Leader in You, Critical Thinking, Next Level Leadership, Leading Change Initiatives, and High Performing Engaged Teams.

Many other disability providers failed during the pandemic. Community Options focused on sharing and increasing resources so that we would not. We instead absorbed staff and residents from failed providers and from institutions where viral spread created dangerous living conditions and led many families to instead choose community-based placements for their relatives. We opened twenty-three new homes and overall census growth was nearly 3%. Since the start of the pandemic, we ensured that no employees would be laid off or furloughed. We secured $6.4 million in federal relief and grant relief to ensure continued operations. To address staffing shortages, we creatively advertised for positions at virtual job fairs, and in ads on Hulu and YouTube. We created a staff recognition program and gave awards for dedication and heroism. Staff across our 10-state catchment area were encouraged to share best practices for securing PPE, retaining staff, and re-structuring routines and services for the people we support. We met virtually each month to share successes and brainstorm how to address challenges. During quarantine, each region took turns leading daily virtual activities that all residents could participate in such as gardening, cooking, and crafts. This reduced isolation and boredom. As employment and site-based programs closed, we redeployed our staff to work in community homes. We shifted site-based programs to operate in homes, bringing critical services to people with disabilities safely. To further protect the health and safety of our employees and the people we support, our CEO announced a $500 vaccination incentive in August 2021. The incentive was offered to all 5,500 of Community Options employees and increased our staff vaccination rate to nearly 70%.
