2011-06 07/01/2012 --Donor Advisory

Prior to 9/1/2016, Charity Navigator issued Advisories under the name CN Watchlist and Donor Advisory. For more information on the CN Advisory system click here. This charity was issued a DA.

This donor advisory was published on Sunday, July 1, 2012

In accordance with our policy for removing Donor Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Donor Advisory for the Museum of New Mexico Foundation on July 1, 2013 because the Donor Advisory had been in place for more than a year (since July 1, 2012) and because the issue that prompted the Donor Advisory has been resolved. Specifically:

  • The FY 2011 Form 990 reported fundraising expenses.

Charity Navigator had published a Donor Advisory for this charity because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • The Museum of New Mexico Foundation historically reported fundraising expenses on their Form 990.  But the FY 2012 Form 990 listed no fundraising expenses. Based on our experience, charities only rarely are able to raise substantial sums of money without incurring any associated fundraising costs. We reached out to the Museum of New Mexico Foundation for clarification, but had not received an adequate explanation. We were therefore unable to evaluate the Museum of New Mexico Foundation and thus issued the Donor Advisory.
