Fonkoze USA secures financial and technical support for its Haitian partners, Fonkoze Foundation and Fonkoze Financial Services. Fonkoze USA educates the American public about it's partners' work in Haiti, facilitates technical assistance, raises money to support their services and programs, and provides the due diligence and reporting for donors. Fonkoze USA also acts as a channel for socially responsible investors who want to invest in Fonkoze Financial Service's loan fund by lending their money at subsidized interest rates. The vision of the Fonkoze Family is a Haiti where people, standing together, shoulder to shoulder, have pulled themselves out of poverty. Our mission is to work together to provide financial and non-financial services to empower Haitians - primarily women - to lift their families out of poverty. In Haiti, there are 45 branches, over 850 employees, 62,000 loans in the hands of women entrepreneurs, nearly 200,000 savers, and other supporting services.

Impact Information

Classy created Progress to help nonprofits and social enterprises articulate their performance by combining qualitative insights on program strategies and beneficiaries, with quantitative metrics on social problems, short term outputs and long term intended outcomes.  Learn More about Impact Information.
Program Name: Boutik Sante
Problem

In rural Haiti, the mortality rate for children under-five is 87/1000 births. The principal causes of morbidity in Haiti are preventable, yet the health services, infrastructure, and product market are inadequate and dysfunctional. In the absence of social services, non-governmental health initiatives occasionally fill the void, yet programs are often short-term, small-scale, and unsustainable. So, reliable, affordable access to quality health products and services in rural areas remains poor.

Strategy

Boutik Sante leverages Fonkoze’s nationwide microfinance network, whose clients have consistently requested access to basic health products and services. Boutik Sante is our response. Fonkoze trains select clients to become community health entrepreneurs. They provide training, sell products, and deliver services based on their client population’s demand. They buy products from Fonkoze; Fonkoze buys products from Healthy Entrepreneurs/Haiti Medicine; profits will sustain the program’s growth.

IF:THEN

IF the Boutik Sante Program provides the necessary training in health products and services to entrepreneurs; if Fonkoze and its partners effectively manage the product supply chain; and if the target client population purchases, appropriately uses, and is satisfied with offered services...

THEN by 2020, nearly 1 million Haitians will have improved access to health products and services; the target client population will demonstrate a 20% reduction in morbidity of children under five years of age as well as improvements in indicators related to family planning, maternal and child health, and chronic disease; 1,800 Boutik Sante entrepreneurs will experience improved livelihoods; and profits from the sale of products will enable the program to be self-sustaining.
