Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children's Shelter, was born out of necessity to address the huge homeless issue in the Metro Atlanta area. We are a nonprofit, 501c3 Corporation and a residential care facility which provides services for homeless children from 0-17 years of age along with their young mothers. We provide customized "Life Plans" that are designed around the physical, emotional and educational needs of our kids, while helping Mom get a plan of action to get back on her feet. Our goal is not simply to be a place of refuge, we are the "NEXT STEP" towards independence. We take our guests from homelessness, to hopeful, to a home of their own. Our program is a 3 - 12 month, high accountability plan of action where Mom is given life skills training, lives and works a budget and learns how to maintain and sustain the household she will eventually move into upon completion of our program.

2014-06 02/01/2016 --Donor Advisory

Prior to 9/1/2016, Charity Navigator issued Advisories under the name CN Watchlist and Donor Advisory. For more information on the CN Advisory system click here. This charity was issued a DA.

This donor advisory was published on Monday, February 1, 2016

In accordance with our policy for removing Donor Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Donor Advisory for the Gwinnett Children's Shelter on June 1, 2016 because the issues that prompted the Donor Advisory have been resolved. Specifically:

  • The organization filed an amended Form 990 for Fiscal Year 2014 which correctly reports fundraising expenses.

Charity Navigator had published a Donor Advisory on Gwinnett Children's Shelter because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • Gwinnett Children's Shelter had historically reported fundraising expenses on their Form 990. But its Form 990 for fiscal year ending in June 2014 list no fundraising expenses. Based on our experience, charities only rarely are able to raise substantial sums of money without incurring any associated fundraising costs. We reached out to Gwinnett Children's Shelter for clarification, but did not receive an adequate explanation. We were therefore unable to evaluate Gwinnett Children's Shelter and thus issued this Donor Advisory.
