Open Books transforms lives through reading, writing, and the unlimited power of books. Over the past 13 years, Open Books has grown into an award-winning organization that operates two bookstores located in West Loop and Pilsen. It also provides six literacy programs to birth-12th grade students and rewarding volunteer experiences for 800 adults every year.

Each year, Open Books engages over 6,000 youth in its literacy programs that boost students' skills and confidence and help them see themselves as readers and writers. Students who participate in the writing programs also become published authors. Through its book granting programs, Open Books donates over 160,000 books to children and under-resourced Chicago communities.
