Note: The Impact & Results score currently has no effect on the nonprofit's Star Rating.

The Impact & Results score is a measure of how well a nonprofit delivers on its stated mission. To issue a score, Charity Navigator estimates the actual impact the nonprofit has on the lives of those it serves, and determines whether it is making good use of donor resources to achieve that impact. Learn more about our Impact & Results methodology here.

Program Activities
Middle Georgia Community Food Bank primarily collects, warehouses and distributes food to front-line organizations like food pantries and soup kitchens. It also manages smaller programs that provide groceries directly to beneficiaries.
Impact Statement
$0.80 provides a meal to a person in need.
Assessment Benchmark
Impact & Results scores of food distribution programs are based on the cost of a meal relative to the cost that a food-secure person incurs to buy a meal in that county. Programs receive an Impact & Results score of 100 if they are less than 75% the cost of a meal and a score of 75 if they are less than 125%. If a nonprofit reports impact but doesn't meet the threshold for cost-effectiveness, it earns a score of 50.
Methodology
ImpactMatters analyzed publicly available data to rate the cost-effectiveness of Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.
Data Source
Outcome data collected during the program. Middle Georgia Community Food Bank publicly reports the amount of food it provides.
Method for Attributing Outcomes
We assume that the distribution of a meal from one nonprofit's food distribution program does not diminish the amount of food distributed by any other (neighboring) food distribution program. This “counterfactual” assumption about the amount of food distributed in the absence of Middle Georgia Community Food Bank’s food distribution program implies that the benefit of a meal to a beneficiary in need constitutes a net gain; the gain is not offset by reductions in food provided to other beneficiaries in need. We therefore set the counterfactual to zero.

Historical CN Advisories

06/29/2020-02/01/2021: Moderate Concern Advisory

In accordance with our policy for removing CN Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Moderate Concern CN Advisory for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank on February 1, 2021, because the issues that prompted the CN Advisory have been resolved. Specifically:

  • The organization has provided information relating to corrective actions that organization has undertaken and has demonstrated transparency with their donors

Charity Navigator had published a Moderate Concern CN Advisory on Middle Georgia Community Food Bank because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • On June 16, 2020, The Telegraph reported that Middle Georgia Community Food Bank was, or may continue to be, a subject of a material diversion of assets in an article titled, " CRIME Ex-CFO of Macon food bank accused of using charity money for spa, dentist and more." For this reason, we have issued a Moderate Concern CN Advisory as the allegations have yet to be confirmed. For more information regarding this matter, please see The Telegraph article.
