Water for South Sudan delivers direct, transformative and sustainable quality-of-life service to the people of South Sudan by efficiently providing access to clean, safe water and improving hygiene and sanitation practices in areas of great need. We are committed to sustainable growth, continuously seeking ways to drive progress, and our interactions and services are delivered with warmth, sincerity, and compassion. We leverage our existing resources and partnerships to maximize our impact, and our collaborative approach multiplies the results in the communities we serve.

WFSS has drilled more than 450 water wells since 2005 and provides hygiene education training in every village we serve. Our focus on sustainability led us to develop our well rehabilitation team in 2017, which has repaired more than 167 of our oldest wells. In 2018, we launched our pilot sanitation program, installing a latrine (toilet facility) at the Zogolona Primary School in Wau.

Impact & Results Score

Score
100/100
Program Name: Well Drilling Program
Program Name: Well Drilling Program

Note: The Impact & Results score currently has no effect on the nonprofit's Star Rating.

The Impact & Results score is a measure of how well a nonprofit delivers on its stated mission. To issue a score, Charity Navigator estimates the actual impact the nonprofit has on the lives of those it serves, and determines whether it is making good use of donor resources to achieve that impact. Learn more about our Impact & Results methodology here.

Program Activities
Water for South Sudan drills wells for remote villages in the Bahr el Ghazal region of South Sudan. The placement of the wells is determined in collaboration with government and community leaders.
Impact Statement
$2 provides clean water to a person for a year.
Assessment Benchmark
Impact & Results scores of water access programs are based on the cost to provide clean water relative to the market cost that a person incurs to buy water in that country. Programs receive an Impact & Results score of 100 if they provide water for less than 75% of the estimated market costs, and a score of 75 if they do so for less than 125%. If a nonprofit reports impact but doesn't meet the threshold for cost-effectiveness, it earns a score of 50.
Methodology
Using data reported by Water for South Sudan, ImpactMatters analysts calculated impact.
Data Source
Outcome data collected through interviews with village members and feedback from Water for South Sudan field staff who visit well sites.
Method for Attributing Outcomes
Water for South Sudan conjectures that only 20 percent of currently served individuals would receive water wells without its program. Unlike Water for South Sudan, larger nonprofits in South Sudan do not typically go to remote villages due to distance and costs.
