Pacifica Radio is a community radio network of commercial free stations that serve their local communities and beyond. Pacifica is KPFA in Berkeley, CA; KPFK in Los Angeles, CA; KPFT in Houston, TX; WBAI in New York, NY; WPFW in Washington DC; and over 100 affiliate stations. Founded in 1949 as a visionary alternative to commercially-driven media, we pioneered listener-sponsored, community radio and have been a beacon for noncommercial, free media. Pacifica's mission is to promote peace and justice through communication between all races, nationalities, and cultures. We strive to contribute to the democratic process through public discourse and promotion of culture.

In accordance with our policy for removing CN Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Moderate Concern CN Advisory for the Pacifica Foundation Radio on August 1, 2020, because the CN Advisory has been in place for more than a year (since September 1, 2016).

Charity Navigator had published a Moderate Concern CN Advisory on Pacifica Foundation Radio because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • On January 8, 2015, it came to the attention of Charity Navigator that Pacifica Foundation Radio is the subject of an investigation by California attorney general, according to an article titled, "California attorney general launches audit of national radio network." For this reason, we have issued a Moderate Concern CN Advisory. For more information regarding the charges reported, please see The Daily Californian article.

    • On July 11, 2017, Radio World published an article titled, "Pacifica in Court Over Tower Lease Dispute." For more information, please see the Radio World article.

07/01/2015-12/01/2019: Low Concern Advisory
