United Way California Capital Region was established in 1923 and is a nonprofit serving Amador, El Dorado, Sacramento, Placer and Yolo counties. Ending poor health, high unemployment, racial inequality and poverty starts in school. School is square one for reaching all families and ensuring children are healthy and successful.
In 2016, we launched our Square One Project, a 20-year commitment to significantly reduce poverty by increasing the number of kids who graduate from high school ready for college or career through our Building Blocks for Success: Keeping Kids in School, Keeping Kids on Track, Setting High Expectations and Ensuring Strong Support. As the backbone of the project, we connect and coordinate community partners to align services and resources toward our shared vision of ending poverty through education.
