This rating was published 05/01/2018 and includes data from FY2016, the most recent 990 received at that time.

Outreach360 was originally incorporated in 1995 as Orphanage Outreach to assist an orphanage in the Dominican Republic. As the Orphanage Outreach volunteer program grew, more and more volunteer effort was expended on disadvantaged neighboring communities. The focus was on education—English, literacy, and community health. To more accurately represent our community efforts, Orphanage Outreach began doing business as Outreach360 in 2011. The mission of Outreach360 is to enhance the education of underserved children in Latin America through our world class service-learning program. Our vision is a transformed world in which every child is able to pursue a college degree or to be gainfully employed upon reaching adulthood, enabling them to live a life of choice. Each child will become an active citizen, committed to serving those less fortunate, and be an active friend of the environment.

Prior to 9/1/2016, Charity Navigator issued Advisories under the name CN Watchlist and Donor Advisory. For more information on the CN Advisory system click here. This charity was issued a DA.

This donor advisory was published on Monday, August 10, 2015

  • Outreach360 has historically reported fundraising expenses on their Forms 990. However, its fiscal year ending 12/2011, 12/2012 and 12/2013 Forms 990 did not list fundraising expenses. Although the organization's fiscal year ending 12/2014 990 now reports fundraising expenses, it is our experience that charities are rarely able to raise substantial sums of money without incurring any associated fundraising costs. We have reached out to Outreach360 for clarification on previous Forms 990, but we have not received an adequate explanation. We are therefore unable to evaluate Outreach360 and have thus issued this Donor Advisory.
  • On August 6, 2015, Outreach360 sent Charity Navigator the following response:

"Outreach360 involves volunteers in providing educational opportunities for underserved children living in the rural communities of Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Outreach360 volunteers raise a certain amount of funds based on the length of their volunteer time with us. These funds are used to support the volunteer program as well as the programs we are providing for the children we serve. Prior to 2014 our main focus has been on recruiting volunteers, and they were responsible for raising funds for their trip. Therefore, no fundraising expenses had been incurred by using this approach, we did not have a need to hire outside professional fund-raising support or spend additional funds on overhead. Thus, no fund-raising expenses are reported on form 990 prior to 2014. This approach has served as the major source of funding for 20 years. In 2014, we began to focus on raising additional funds for curriculum and academic programs for the children we work with. These minimal expenses are listed on our form 990 for 2014 as well as our Independent Audited financial statements for 2014. These expenses will also be listed on form 990 for 2015. To become a recurring donor or to ask questions about this statement, please contact Outreach360."

Historical CN Advisories

04/01/2013-02/01/2017: Moderate Concern Advisory

In accordance with our policy for removing CN Advisories, Charity Navigator removed the Moderate Concern CN Advisory for Outreach360 on February 1, 2017 because the CN Advisory has been in place for more than a year (since April 1, 2013) and because the issues that prompted the CN Advisory have been resolved. Specifically:

  • The organization's Fiscal Year 2014 and 2015 Forms 990 report fundraising expenses.

Charity Navigator had published a Moderate Concern CN Advisory on Outreach360 because we became aware of the following information in connection with this charity:

  • Outreach360 has historically reported fundraising expenses on their federal tax return called the Form 990. However, Outreach360’s most recent Form 990 does not list fundraising expenses. Based on our experience, charities are only rarely able to raise substantial sums of money without incurring any associated fundraising costs. We have reached out to Outreach360 for further clarification, but have not received an adequate explanation and have thus issued this Moderate Concern CN Advisory.
