The torrential rains in Rio Grande do Sul have devastated this area, prompting the state to declare level III public calamity alert, the highest level in Brazil. According to the initial reports from Civil Defense, as of Friday, May 10, 414 municipalities have been affected, impacting over 1.4 million people. Nearly 165,000 individuals have been displaced, with at least 136 reported fatalities.

Furthermore, ongoing forecasts predict continued rainfall in certain areas of the state, exacerbating challenges such as compromised water supply, particularly in the capital city of Porto Alegre and surrounding municipalities.
