In the wake of the terrible tragedy that occurred on December 14, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School, many people want to do something to help. While most of the funds set up to help the victims of the shooting are too small, too new or otherwise do not meet our rating criteria, there are several charities that we do rate that you may want to consider supporting. These include charities like Save the Children, which opened a facility in Newtown to give kids a place to express themselves while parents seek counseling, and DonorsChoose, which isn't specifically involved with Sandy Hook elementary, but is a charity that many people are supporting in honor of the heroic actions by the teachers at Sandy Hook. You can learn more about each of the charities listed here by clicking on its name and visiting its ratings page.
All of us who work here at Charity Navigator wish to convey our heartfelt support and thoughts to the families of the victims as well as the residents of Newtown, Connecticut.
