UMCOR, along with Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach (not rated, if interested check www.mission-outreach.org) by the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, which sends medical supplies world-wide, are my two international aid organizations of choice. Both deserve to be more widely known!

UMCOR administrative costs

My understanding is that the administrative costs for UMCOR are mainly covered by a special offering in churches ("One Great Hour of Sharing"), not from apportionments. That way, when a specific need comes up, the donations can go directly to that need. Check out their website.

Birdie's right. The United Methodist Church's pay apportionments to cover the administrative costs of UMCOR. Gifts and donations are designated for relief.

I encourage everyone I know to contribute to this VERY worthwhile organization. As I understand it, ALL the money you give, goes to help the projects. Since it is the UMC, other funds pay expenses.

Monies are in immediate need for this disaster relief program. Responding to all of events of the Spring and Summer of 2008 both in the US and internationally have left the warehouse,Saeger Brown, in Baldwin,LA near empty. Please check out the work of this organization at umcor.org. They were on the ground for Katrina and still are . And they are on the ground now for Gustav, Fay, and Ike.Monies are used to buy supplies for Flood Buckets and other kits distributed by volunteer disaster teams. Volunteers assist at the warehouse, in crisis areas helping with cleanup, and even counseling centers. Here is a opportunity for you to join with others in coordinated, tried and true teamwork to be of real help. Check out the website at umcor.org to get involved. Also, note the button at the left of this screen for immediate relief you can give. Each flood bucket packed which goes to a family contains cleaning products to get them started on recoverying their home. Volunteers help in that cleanup sharing not only muscle but the hope and love of our Lord Jesus. Thank you for hearing the call with us. God Bless
