Intrepid Museum rating

The Intrepid Foundation notes that the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum closed for substantial restoration and renovation on October 1, 2006 with reopening scheduled for November 2008. The Museum realized no revenues from admissions during this period. Therefore, during this period we were forced to reduce our programmatic work to those initiatives that we could fund through direct grants. At the same time our administrative expenses due to the restoration and renovation continued as did our fundraising efforts to finance the capital projects and our programs, thereby consuming a larger portion of overall expenses than in a normal operating year. These circumstances combined, substantially and adversely affected our Charity Navigator rating. Upon reopening in November 2008, the Museum’s substantial programmatic work will quickly return to normal with plans to exceed prior levels. Intrepid management is confident that we will regain our previous 4-star Charity Navigator rating.
