I have suported this charity for several years now. If you look at the amount of money this charity takes in, then you should be able to see the salary for the ceo ( who is responsible for this money ) is merely nominal. Do you think that a person who is responsible for all that money should get minimum wage? Do you think that that responsibilty is not a full time job & they should just donate their time? This is a good charity & its a good thing they are trying to do. I have never recieved any mailing from them that said " invoice inclosed " or in any way made me feel like I already owed them money. Yes the trees they give you for free ( a donation ) are small. What were you expecting for 20 bucks? I have over 25 Arbor Day trees on my property, some as big as 20 ft tall. I donate money & buy trees from them.
CEO makes too much money

Wow, the CEO's compensation eats up over half the administrative budget? That's too much.
unpleasant solicitaion for membership

Like the other comments I reacted negatively to the "Statement Enclosed" on the envelope and to all the "free" books and trees offered for joining for only $10. They must be very small!. Over promising even for a good cause doesn't give one a sense of assurance that the charity is well managed. I choose not to respond and will send my money to the Nature Conservancy and similar organizations.
Confusion

I thought I had another charity but then my search only returned, "The National Arbor Day Foundation." My check is made out to Arbor Day Foundation. But I see the name of John Rosenow here so, I'm not sure what is going on. The envelope they sent me read, "Statement Enclosed" which is a bit disconcerting, but after all it only looks like a magazine subscription. Included with the pitch were some nice cards, and the regular printed set of self-adhesive return labels and a chance to win free coffee for a year. Those compensation figures for these executive officers are unimaginable to me. I can only think they must be spreading it around but, probably live in castles?
unpleasant mailing

I will probably make a small donation to the Arbor Day foundation, because I think its focus on planting trees is worth supporting. BUT I am very unimpressed with a mailing I received (June 2008) that is marked "Invoice enclosed." That kind of approach is offensive and borders, I think on the unethical, and I intend to write to them about this.

CEO compensation

The CEO compensaton is more that 2x the average charity CEO compensation and his wife is director of company that receives 545,000 from arbor for services in 2008. I am reconsidering any donation this year.
