Meaningful impact to preservation of park

Friends of Acadia is pretty well known in Acadia. Their name is in a few of the conservation and "leave no trace" materials distributed in the park. The organization is also well respected by the National Park Service according to some of the park rangers I've talked to.

The almost untouched nature of Acadia National Park is impressive especially considering that the nature is preserved in this tiny island even with 2 million visitors annually. I am sure that this could not be done without organizations actively preserving this park. However I am not sure how much of this to attribute to Friends of Acadia versus the National Park Service since they are fairly intertwined. It does seem that the organization has a meaningful impact to the park preservation. They have several active projects on their website.
