ASPCA vs. Farm Sanctuary
Posted by Vegman | February 23, 2009 6:39:55 AM
Lome, I can understand your concern about the ASPCA's president earnings. However, The President of ASPCA has to oversee much more than the President or Executive Director of Farm Sanctuary. The ASPCA's admin costs are lower percentage wise than Farm Sanctuary and the Pres of the ASPCA's salary is a smaller percentage.
That being said, I think both organizations are excellent.

My children and I went to the Farm Sanctuary located in California. What an amazing place. Tha animals that are fortunate enough to end there are very lucky indeed. We were very impressed with the dedication of the staff.
Better than other animal orgs

It's nice to see that Farm Sanctuary's leadership makes reasonable amounts of money as opposed to other animal orgs such as the ASPCA whose president makes more than $400K. I visited Farm Sanctuary's New York site and was impressed with how well they use donor money and the animal's accomodations.
they have my support

CEO compensation
Posted by violetrinity | July 23, 2009 5:53:15 AM
I don't think that the % of expenses that the CEO salary comprises (in the case of ASPCA, per comments below) is really relevant. The salary is what it is-- 400K could save a hell of a lot of animals and I just can't imagine that the CEO cares that much if he/she insists upon taking that money for themselves. The low compensation rate of the Farm Sanctuary head is the factor which makes me choose them over other charities when I can only afford to give to one. That said, I know that ASPCA and HSUS do fantastic work and I thank Good for them-- I just don't get why their CEOS need to make kajillions of bucks. Thanks to anyone reading this for donating to ANY animal charity-- together we can change the mentality of this world in favor of animals.
