The FTC is more involved in the charity business of lately any Charity this is not doing more for the Programs then the payroll of the Charity is in serious trouble, which means Charity paying 100 to ots employees to operate but giving 1 dollar to the actual Charity intended goal is wrong and your asking to be shut down. Non-Profit managers you better watch your salary because trust me someone else is and they have a lot of power and authority. Any Charity who uses high pressure boiler room people your asking for trouble. Remember its not your money its the donors give it to the stated people you say you will help
Liars and Scammers

I've been contacted twice in a three week period by this organization. First of all, they lied and portrayed themselves as my local fire department, telling me how their member shop in my store, that they want to put me on the cover of their calendar, blah, blah blah. The first time they called I happily gave them a sizable donation, believing they were my local fire department. When I said no, two weeks later, the caller became hostile and offensive, threatening that they would no longer shop in my store (NOT the reason I gave a donation anyway). At that point I became suspicious and called the Fire Captain in my town only to find out that there was NO connection whatsoever and the money I thought I was giving to them was never received.
DON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM! If you want to give to real firefighters and paramedics, call your local departments and give your check directly to them.

I have been called by AFP, most likely via one of the organizations listed in the previous comment, twice in the last week. The called was incredibly rude and unprofessional, the worst I have experienced. As a nonprofit professional myself, I am more tolerant than most to the need to raise funds. But the tacit approval of this contractor's methods, as evidenced by my unreturned calls to AFP proper, tells me AFP has little integrity.

Regardless, of what you think of this non-profit you should consider the for profit Commercial Fundraisers. Commercial Fundraisers are the businesses that contact you actively asking for donations. The active Fundraisers that collect for this non-profit:
Merit Fundraising, LLC Unknown. Community Support, Inc. 13% of the contributions raised by this organization were returned to or retained by the charity client(s). Courtesy Call, Inc. 15% of the contributions raised by this organization were returned to or retained by the charity client(s)

Even United Way has overhead and as a matter of fact, has corporate jets! I work for a company that fundraises money for this particular association and it is NOT a benefit for firefighters OR paramedics. It benefits burn centers and burn victims and their families.
You can mention any percentile that was reported by anyone... This is how the contracts to fundraising work... 1. Association needs XXX,XXX amount of dollars... 2. Fundraiser cuts a check for XXX,XXX and proceeds to recoupe their money by fundraising. 3. The amount raised past the XXX,XXX is kept as a fee for fundraising 4. If the XXX,XXX is not raised and collected by the fundraiser, they lose money...
