Mission

Chartered in 1821, The George Washington University (GWU) dedicates itself to furthering human well-being. The University values a dynamic, student-focused community stimulated by cultural and intellectual diversity and is built upon a foundation of integrity, creativity, and openness to the exploration of new ideas. Few private schools of our size have the number of majors, the array of classroom experiences, privileged access to academic resources, and the well-connected faculty that GW offers. Our academic prowess is expressed in myriad ways: in the classroom, in the laboratory, in the study group, in the studio, online, in the library, on residence hall academic program floors, in academic and honor society clubs, and in academic or departmental social gatherings.
