Mission

Founded in 1868, Hampton University (HU) is a comprehensive institution of higher education, dedicated to the promotion of learning, building of character, and the preparation of promising students for positions of leadership and service. Its curriculum emphasis is scientific and professional with a strong liberal arts under girding. HU offers exemplary programs and opportunities that enable students, faculty, and staff to grow, develop, and contribute to our society in a productive, useful manner. The University offers 52 bachelor's degree programs, 21 master's degree programs, and four doctoral or professional degrees. A historically black institution, HU is committed to multiculturalism and serves students from diverse national, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
