Mission

The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. When MADD was founded in 1980, drunk driving was considered socially acceptable behavior despite the fact an estimated 30,000 people were being killed annually in alcohol-related traffic crashes on America's roadways. Since that time, alcohol-related traffic fatalities have declined by more than 40 percent - and more than 330,000 lives have been saved. Our campaign to eliminate drunk driving from the nation will focus on four components: highly-publicized law enforcement efforts; implementing current alcohol ignition interlock technologies; exploring advanced vehicle technologies; and mobilizing public support.
