Goodwill of Orange County is committed to engaging and developing our more than 1,200 team members. We have dedicated teams both within Human Resources and Training and in a newly-formed Employee Engagement department that focus much of their time and effort on Leadership Development and Career Growth within our organization. In the past 12-18 months, Goodwill has invested tremendously in Leadership Development. In June of 2020, Goodwill began a new training program for Leaders with monthly Leadership Forums held virtually and open to all assistant managers and supervisors within the organization. These Forums provide learning opportunities and development workshops. The Forums bring in industry leaders and experts from our community to offer guidance, best-practices and new resources for further career development.

What are this organization’s external mobilizaton efforts?
Goodwill of Orange County utilizes several external efforts to expand our mission reach and impact. For example, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our community was in dire need for food resources, so we partnered with two local Orange County food banks to help deliver much-needed food basics throughout our community. We are also members of several local networks and associations with the goal of working together to make Orange County better. These include several Chamber of Commerces, the Orange County Business Council, the Orange County Veteran and Military Families Collaborative, and many more. Goodwill of Orange County also has established relationships with both local, state and national advocacy groups. Most recently, our Veteran Services team and CEO have been working with California Senator Thomas J. Umberg on Senate Bill 665, which allows private employers to establish, and maintain, a written veteran’s preference employment policy and hiring program.
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Most recently, in direct response to the challenges precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Goodwill reimagined the delivery of our mission and innovated our services to best care for our community’s most vulnerable, including our veterans. In October 2020 we launched a Virtual Career Center that offers personalized program planning and assessment, job placement into competitive employment, hard and soft-skill development, job coaching, on-the-job support, paid work experiences, individualized benefits counseling, education resources, and much more to those we serve at no cost. Collectively, in 2020 our Workforce Development initiatives delivered the following outcomes: - Delivered 14 distinct workforce development program initiatives; - Provided 250,000 hours of virtual services to 4,100 clients; - Placed 600 individuals in meaningful employment; and - Placed 53 veterans into employment positions earning an average of $22.53/hr.
