Mission

Founded as a downtown soup kitchen in 1954, the Open Door Mission is a faith-based recovery and rehabilitation shelter dedicated to transforming the lives of the addicted, destitute, homeless or disabled. Anyone who shows up at the front gate is welcome to share a meal, and pick up clothing and hygiene items. Hundreds of walk-ins a month come to the Mission for this type of support. After the men receive urgent help, they are assessed by our Social Services department to determine if they need further assistance; for instance, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, medical services, or educational support. In 2006 we served over 207,000 meals and provided over 80,000 nights of shelter and over 19,000 items of clothes.
