Mission

House of Ruth has been helping women, children and families in greatest need throughout the District of Columbia since 1976. We provide a comprehensive array of housing, services and supports in nurturing environments. At House of Ruth women, children and families heal from lifetimes of traumatic abuse. At our 10 residential sites in Washington, D.C., women and families work hard to learn the skills to live independently so they can eliminate homelessness and abuse from their lives. We also offer vital community-based services, such as developmental day care and extensive outreach and counseling to fight domestic violence. On a typical day, we serve 500 people, approximately half of whom are children.
