Mission

Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) is the dedicated partner of the Smithsonian National Zoological Park (the Zoo). FONZ provides exciting and enriching experiences to connect people with wildlife. Together with the Zoo, FONZ is building a society committed to restoring an endangered natural world. FONZ has been providing support to wildlife conservation programs at the National Zoo and around the world since 1958. The Zoo provides the highest quality animal care. It advances research and scientific knowledge in conserving wildlife. The Zoo teaches and inspires people to protect wildlife, natural resources and habitats; and practices conservation leadership in all we do.
