Mission
Uptown Shelter assists unaccompanied adult men experiencing homelessness in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County area by: providing safe emergency shelter and meeting basic needs; addressing barriers related to homelessness and self-sufficiency; and by helping guests obtain and maintain more appropriate housing. Uptown Shelter is a 268-bed facility managed by a professional staff, supported by dedicated volunteers and donors, and focused on meeting the needs of our guests. Founded in 1985 as a day shelter for people experiencing homelessness in Charlotte, Uptown Shelter has evolved into a comprehensive service provider that specializes in helping homeless men.
