ALS Awareness
Charities funding research, providing support for treatment and care, and general support services for those living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
May is ALS Awareness Month. Many of you may remember the Ice Bucket Challenge from the videos of people dumping a bucket of ice water over their heads to promote awareness of ALS and encourage donations to research. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, it’s a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function due to a breakdown of nerve cells, which reduces functionality in the muscles they supply. Medication and therapy can slow ALS and reduce discomfort, but there's no cure.
Charity Navigator presents this list of highly-rated nonprofits working to further research and support those living with ALS. Use our Giving Basket to donate to one or several organizations making a difference.
