Chile Wildfires

Chile has been battling forest fires that have caused the deadliest disaster in the country in 14 years. The fires began on Friday, February 2, 2024, and have spread through bushland and into populated areas on the edge of the Valparaiso region, about 120 km (75 miles) northwest of Santiago. The fires have already burnt through 8,000 hectares (30 square miles) of forest and urban areas, killing over 100 people and leaving hundreds missing. The high temperatures, low humidity, and high wind speeds have made it difficult to control the wildfires. Emergency orders have been extended, and nonprofits across USA, Spain, and South America are providing immediate assistance.
