The Emmanuel Cancer Foundation partners with hospitals, public and private external organizations to fill the needs of the NJ families that have a child with cancer. We partner to raise funds, raise awareness and also to find new families in need. ECF goes out into the community to speak at clubs, school, churches, corporations and more to spread the word about what we do.

Like everyone, we have spent the past year and a half trying to navigate this world turned upside down by the coronavirus. Then, and now, we have worked hard to continue to make a difference despite the quarantine, logistical challenges and the economic downturn. Our ECF families began struggling even more under the repercussions of the pandemic, and we had to be there for them! Social distance, fear of contamination, shelter in place….these were foreign concepts to us….but not to kids with cancer. Many of them have spent months living in a hospital room, or confined to their homes because their child is immune compromised. Sometimes, after treatments, the kids aren’t even allowed to hug their own parents. Families are terrified of their kids catching the virus. They are struggling financially because of the staggering expense of a cancer diagnosis, and now many are out of a job. They continue to turn to us for help, because they can’t afford to buy enough food. As the pandemic unfolded, ECF was affected in the way most nonprofits were—our staff was sent home, food pantries closed, and nearly all of our 2020 fundraising events were cancelled meaning a loss of over $200,000 in revenue in 2020 alone. But at the same time, we continued to get referrals of new families, and many of our current families faced significantly increased greater hardships due to the economic crisis, meaning additional outlays of money to fund the increased services. Despite the challenges, we never stopped assisting our families--helping with their bills, conducting counseling sessions over the phone or by video conference, dropping off groceries when possible to do so safely and sending grocery gift cards when it is not safe for volunteers, staff or the families. Anything we could do to help while also ensuring the health and safety of all involved.
