...   Finance & Accountability

Charity Navigator evaluates a nonprofit organization’s financial health including measures of stability, efficiency and sustainability. We also track accountability and transparency policies to ensure the good governance and integrity of the organization.

No Score

We have not issued this nonprofit an Finance & Accountability score. This does not indicate a positive or negative assessment, only that we have not reached a conclusion for the following reason:

This organization cannot be evaluated by our Encompass Rating methodology because, as a church, it is not required to file the Form 990.

The lack of a rating for this reason simply means that the organization does not meet our rating criteria. It does not indicate a positive or negative assessment by Charity Navigator.

...   Impact & Results

Charity Navigator assesses how well a nonprofit delivers on its mission. To issue an Impact & Results score, we estimate the actual impact a nonprofit has on the lives of those it serves, and determine whether it is making good use of donor resources to achieve that impact.

No Score

We have not issued this nonprofit an Impact & Results score. This does not indicate a positive or negative assessment, only that we have not reached a conclusion for one of the following reasons:

  • The nonprofit is eligible for a score, but we have not yet gotten to scoring it.

  • The nonprofit is eligible for a score, but we have not yet developed the specific algorithms to estimate the impact of the type of service it delivers and so cannot issue a score yet.

  • The nonprofit does not primarily deliver services directly to beneficiaries or it is not reasonable to expect the nonprofit to measure impact for its primary activity. The impact analysis framework that we use is not well suited to these nonprofits.

  • The nonprofit is not heavily reliant on individual donors because beneficiaries fund a majority of its costs or it does not receive any private charitable contributions.

What is your organization aiming to accomplish?

Our goal is to help inner city children and youth with needs of back packs, school supplies, coats, gloves and hats, food, Thanksgiving dinners for their families, and provide a Christmas for children who would not receive anything otherwise. In other words, bring hope to the inner city. We are dealing with children and youth in the poorest conditions with most being raised by grandparents, friends or drug addicted parents. It is our mission to break this vicious cycle and instill values and purpose, mental health and clarity and help meet some physical needs along the way. We have had this mission since 2001 and seen the fruit of our labor with children, now adults going to college, getting jobs and becoming productive in life in place of following in parents footprints. The children and youth come on their own. Their parents do not bring them or come with them unless they are needing food from the pantry.

What are your strategies for making this happen?

Hamilton Dream Center buses the kids to the church on Wednesdays and Sundays. We provide physical needs by feeding them, then we have programs that are geared to encourage, challenge, and let them know that they are loved. They were created for a purpose. They matter and they are important. We also provide the book bags, coats, Thanksgiving dinners for their families, and we give out a "Wish List" for each child and youth for Christmas. While we may not get everything they desire, we make sure kids that would not get anything, get something. The majority of time, kids ask for Christmas trees, utility bill to be paid or food. Every year it is heartbreaking. Our strategies are simple: bring them in, feed them, and give them hope for their daily lives.

What are your organization's capabilities for doing this?

We have people with heart who care; we have old buses and vans that pick up the children and youth; and we have a 1894 church building to bring them to. People who know the Pastor or members who attend the Dream Center know that we are all about helping the inner city children and youth and ultimately their families. The small congregation of the Hamilton Dream Center are behind the vision of the church to bring hope and purpose to the inner city and support whatever they can.

How will your organization know if you are making progress?

Our organization will know that we are making progress when we are feeding the youth and children less each week and providing less school supplies, back packs, coats, food and Christmas to children in need, and seeing families once in need become productive and start helping others.

What have and haven't you accomplished so far?

We have seen kids come and literally grow up at the Dream Center. Many have gone on to college, gotten jobs and become productive people. That may not seem big, but considering the families and family life the majority of these kids come from, it's amazing! They don't have teenage pregnancies, they are not drug addicted or in prison like their parents, but they know they are valued and have a purpose and they WANT to do well. We will continue to bring hope and dreams to the inner city until every last person knows they have value, they are blessed and that dreams are not unattainable. I am not saying every child is a success story but we have more success than not.
