    Habitat for Humanity of Omaha

    Mission

Founded in 1984, Habitat for Humanity of Omaha creates affordable housing and homeownership opportunities for economically disadvantaged people in a five-county area, including the Omaha metropolitan area. This work is achieved by building and renovating homes for first-time homeowners, repairing or making existing houses more energy efficient, taking down blighted structures and advocating for families to create better laws and systems. Habitat also works with individuals and families to provide the access, skills, and financial education needed to become successful homeowners and to transfer the wealth built in their homes to future generations. Through shelter, we empower. Each year, Habitat Omaha, through its core programs, generally builds or renovates about 50 homes for sale to its clients. Every year, the nonprofit also helps prepare about 300 people to be homeowners through “Home Journey,” Habitat Omaha’s mortgage-readiness counseling and training program, to purchase a Habitat Omaha home or to finance a home purchased on the open market. In addition, Habitat Omaha completes about 250 home repairs for low-income families, seniors and veterans.
