Mission

The mission of the Presque Isle Township Museum Society (PITMS) is to collect, preserve, enhance, and display artifacts of Great Lakes maritime history in the Presque Isle area; to inform and educate the public about our lighthouses and other aids to navigation, and about the service rendered by keepers and their families; and to engage in other activities that contribute to the well-being of our community.

1.Museum Management: Build on and maintain our museum’s collection of historical artifacts and ensuring public accessibility. Conduct a collection inventory. Maintain & build on our collection of artifacts & exhibits, and improve our displays. Digitize our collection of historical archives to ensure public access. Incorporate technology into our museum & outreach efforts.
2.Public Engagement: Share our maritime heritage and build strong connections within the community. Conduct and participate in community programs. Build our membership & provide opportunities for volunteers. Provide programs for youth through school lesson plans, fieldtrips and youth organizations. Build out our website highlighting Presque Isle & Great Lakes maritime history.
3.Fundraising: Investing in the future by cultivating funding sources to support our mission and to promote, restore, and renovate the historic lighthouse parks. Develop a planned giving program. Apply for grants from various funding sources to support specific projects. Continue our annual efforts to raise funds on GivingTuesday and other targeted efforts.
