Strategic Goals

The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking and goal setting through sharing their most important strategic goals.

Goal One: Originally, the organization was focused on veterans who lacked the capacity to provide meals to their family, needed assistance with the health care organizations, and other needed areas.

Goal Type: New program(s) based on observed changes in needs among our constituencies/communities served.

Goal Three: We now focus on the core programs, feeding veterans, seniors, and the community at large. In addition, we have bi-monthly health care screenings with the local health care companies in the area.

Leadership Development

The nonprofit provides evidence of investment in leadership development

What has gotten in the way of your oganization pursuing this investment?

During the past 12 to 18 months we have been overwhelmed with the number of clients we serve. Due to COVID-19, the number of clients served went from between 75 and 100 veterans, to over 300 clients served on a weekly basis. So investing in leadership development has been on the back burner until we have the capacity to continue with our leadership program.

Story of Adaptability

The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.

We adapted to the external change of COVID-19 by continuing to focus on our clients and new clients that come to our organization on a weekly basis by providing food to everyone that comes to our center. We had to revamp our office to a social distance environment by setting up our tables outside and require all clients to stay in their cars for the distribution of food. We had to acquire more volunteers to assist us with placing food boxes in clients cars so that everyone could remain safe from the COVID-19 virus.

Constituent Feedback

Charity Navigator believes nonprofit organizations that engage in inclusive practices, such as collecting feedback from the people and communities they serve, may be more effective. We award every nonprofit that completes the Candid survey full credit for this Beacon, in recognition of their willingness to publicly share this information with the nonprofit and philanthropic communities. Although the data is not evaluated for quality at this time, future iterations of this Beacon will include third party or other data that will serve to validate the information provided by the nonprofit.

Analysis and Research

Like the overall Encompass Rating System, the Culture & Community Beacon is designed to evolve as metrics are developed and ready for integration. Our partnership with Feedback Labs and Guidestar by Candid, and other partners including Fund for Shared Insight, GlobalGiving, and Keystone Accountability, enables us to launch the first version of this beacon with Constituent Feedback information collected on Candid's site.

Feedback practices have been shown to support better Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion outcomes, an essential area of assessment that we intend to further expand and develop in the future. Feedback Labs has documented several studies which indicate that beyond achieving organizational goals, nonprofits that are attentive and responsive to concerns and ideas raised by beneficiaries establish stronger relationships with the people they serve, promote greater equity, and empower constituents in ways that can help to ensure better long-term outcomes. You can find resources to help nonprofits improve their feedback practices here.
