This organization was impacted by COVID-19 in a way that effected their financial health in 2020. This normally would have reduced their star rating. Due to the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, we give charities such as this one the opportunity to share the story of COVID's impact on them, and doing this pauses our revision of their rating. Charities may submit their own pandemic responses through their nonprofit portal.
Tyler Robinson Foundation Inc. reported being impacted by COVID-19 in the following ways:
Revenue
Staffing
Administrative Capacity
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's operations financially:
The Tyler Robinson Foundation had to cancel our biggest fundraiser of the year, the annual RISE UP Gala in 2020. The event was expected to bring in over 2 million dollars of revenue for the foundation. Due to this, TRF had to get creative by introducing new campaigns and virtual events. TRF was able to raise a percentage of the revenue expected by the gala to offset some of these deficits. We also made organizational and temporary staff changes that allowed us to fulfill our mission of providing grants and emotional support to the pediatric cancer families that we serve.
How COVID-19 impacted the organization's delivery of programs:
The Tyler Robinson Foundation had to make adjustments to some of our programs due to the pandemic. The majority of our planned events were moved to virtual or postponed. Our schools program was also put on a temporary pause. Despite these changes, TRF was still able to fulfill our mission (of providing grants and emotional support to pediatric cancer families) to the fullest extent possible due to new and creative fundraising efforts.
How this organization adapted to changing conditions caused by COVID-19:
Tyler Robinson Foundation (TRF) adjusted to the pandemic by making temporary staff changes (reduced salaries and part-time work). In addition, we cut back on overhead as much as possible, including a move to a more affordable office space (and temporary remote work). We did this so that we could continue to fulfill our mission of providing grants to pediatric cancer families, at a time when they needed it the most. Despite the pandemic, TRF still issued over 1 million dollars in financial relief grants. We did this by facilitating over 20 new campaigns and engaging with thousands of supporters. These new campaigns led to an increase of 20% in online donations. TRF also focused efforts on emergency funds to help families that were facing layoffs and reduced hours. The emergency funds helped provide PPE, cleaning supplies, and meals for families.
Innovations the organization intends to continue permanently after the pandemic:
Tyler Robinson Foundation introduced 2 new programs due to the pandemic. The first is the Emergency Fund Drive. The emergency fund drive solicited donations for food, cleaning supplies, and essentials. This is in addition the typical out-of-pocket expenses that TRF covers. This program has grown and TRF has issued over 500 emergency fund grants and will continue to do so. The second program we introduced was Ready2Learn.The school year looked different for most people, but some of the ‘new normal’ elements have long before been habit for a typical pediatric cancer family. Like more hand washing, face masks at school, and distance learning. None of these things were new for cancer kids. TRF asked for cash donations and school supplies and was able to provide support to 150 pediatric cancer children and their siblings. Many pediatric cancer patients continue to do distance learning and TRF will continue to provide the supplies and tools they need through this program.
